the collective
We Were Wilderness is an interdisciplinary approach to creative thinking and collective dreaming. It is a collaborative space where, together, we will use themes to explore our intrinsic interconnectedness to the natural world and shared humanness. Our exploration will be rooted in creative practice, open dialogue and shared resources.
Creativity is an innate human gift. When curious creatives come together in community and collaboration to imagine a more just future for all kin, we drive society towards collective and creative action. We foster change that shapes a reciprocal relationship with each other and the planet.
how it
works
Imagine a space where diverse voices converge around a single theme, exploring it through various lenses and expressions. Every six months, we choose a new theme that invites introspection, creativity, and dialogue.

Our journey begins with a theme. It’s a broad concept, open to interpretation, designed to inspire and challenge. Whether it's "reciprocity," "ritual," or "ecology," the theme serves as our collective focal point.

While anyone can view the content, you must be a member of the collective to contribute content and creative works.

Meet the artists that dreamt up and brought you the We Were Wilderness collective.
Kat + Thais
We created the community we wanted to be in.
We Were Wilderness was co-founded by Kat and Thaïs, and a shared desire to bridge creativity with the broader human experience as participants in the natural world. Together, we envision a gathering place where individuals from all walks of life—artists, therapists, teachers, policy makers, and beyond—could come together, united by a passion for the more-than-human world and our interconnected role within it.
Influenced by the reality that humans are an inseparable part of the natural world, we embrace the potential of interdisciplinary collaboration to dream into and bring forth a better future for all kin. Our vision is symbolized by the lichen in our logo, representing our belief that by coming together, we can achieve what no single person can alone. As founders, we celebrate the inherent creativity in all people and are committed to fostering an environment of curiosity, conversation, and collaborative, creative action. We’ve created We Were Wilderness as a bilingual (English and Spanish) and interdisciplinary space where these values can thrive and where we can collectively move the needle forward.
